The Data Observatory (DO) Foundation is a public, private and academic open innovation and data-science-driven non-profit organization established by Presidential Decree 164 on December 27th, 2018. The DO's vision is to be at the vanguard of data-centric innovation, leading in the production of data-centric solutions, world-class research, talent, and social capital for the Latin American region. The DO's mission is to extract value from datasets of global value acquired and generated in or for the Latin American region; enable their maximal exploitation by the global scientific community, industry, and the public; and facilitate data access, analysis, exploration, visualization, and governance. The DO fosters the collaboration between industry, academy, and government in science, technology, knowledge, and innovation.

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director the incumbent will be responsible for develop, implement and manage the communication and stakeholders’ outreach. This includes DO website, communication plan, publications and media messages, branding, as well as the stakeholders’ relationships that facilitate engagement, including event organization. We expect the incumbent will develop and implement communication strategies targeted to internal and/or external audiences based on identified actions, media and mechanism to promote Data Observatory. These could include board members, general and scientific / technology media, scientific community, public and private sector, general public and others relevant stakeholders. Writes and edits stories and messaging for consistency across all audiences and determines the most appropriate communications vehicles or channels. Collaborates with others in the DO to lead and support communications channels, including the corporate website, and supports other organizational initiatives as determined.

 

Main responsibilities

-        Design and execute a robust and comprehensive communications strategy, including branding, that establishes the integrity and credibility of the Data Observatory;

-        Implement strategies and plans for the development and maintenance of relationships with critical internal and/or external constituencies to foster strategic partnerships and to strengthen the DO effectiveness and image or to mitigate reputational risks;

-        Identify and track performance metrics to show communication, branding and outreach successes;

-        Lead the planning, execution, scope, and pitch of those events that the Data Observatory can host and/or co-partners with other organisations;

-        Develop key quotes, press releases and value-added stories, including writing and editorial support for various communications products including presentations, one-pagers, newsletters, press releases, articles, websites, and other collateral materials;

-        Manage the social media messages for a variety of channels including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter;

-        Manage the full development cycle of a digital newsletter under tight deadlines and can identify strategies to grow the audience base.

-        Responsible for the continuous aggregation, curation, and publication of critical Data Observatory knowledge;

. Requisitos:

EXPERIENCE:

-        Master’s degree in communication or similar areas;

-        Minimum of 8 years relevant experience in a communications, marketing and outreach with advanced nonprofit knowledge and expertise;

-        Proof experience and existing network of journalists, nonprofit/high profile event organizers, core printing, and publishing agencies and design experts;

-        Good knowledge and proof experience in scientific, technological and/or data-centric environment;

-        Experience managing websites and social media communication.

SKILLS:

-        Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills geared towards public outreach;

-        Ability to work effectively, coordinate, and lead in a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team environment;

-        Strong organization and time management skills;

-        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

-        Self-motivated, team player, able to take initiatives and act independently in a fast-paced environment;

-        Understanding of the scientific, legal and regulatory environment desired;

-        Working English and Spanish level.
