Cloud Data Scientist

The Data Observatory (DO) Foundation is a public, private, and academic open innovation and data-science-driven non-profit organization established by Presidential Decree 164 on December 27th, 2018. The DO’s vision is to be at the vanguard of data-centric innovation, leading in the production of data-centric solutions, world-class research, talent, and social capital for the Latin American region. The DO’s mission is to extract value from datasets of global value acquired and generated in or for the Latin American region; enable their maximal exploitation by the global scientific community, industry, and the public; and facilitate data access, analysis, exploration, visualization, and governance. The DO fosters the collaboration between industry, academy, and government in science, technology, knowledge, and innovation.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineering Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the collection, cleaning, and deployment of data products (data life-cycle) to meet the Data Observatory purpose. The use of the analytical, statistical, and programming skills to collect, analyze, and interpret large data sets, and utilizing the information to develop data-driven solutions to private/public challenges,  including techniques as statistics and machine learning, coding languages, databases, machine learning, and reporting technologies. Finally, in terms of the data products’ visualization, the incumbent is expected to be able to understand requirements, conceiving and conducting user needs analysis, interviews, and translating them into data visualization schemas (numerical, non-numerical, satellite image, etc.), dashboards, mockups, and prototypes.

 MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

-        Design and develop algorithms, methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze unstructured, diverse (big) data sources to generate actionable insights and solutions to support projects and product enhancement;

-        Interacts with product and teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments;

-        Develops and implements software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources;

-        Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments;

-        Be an internal leader in basic statistics, including descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression.

. Requisitos:

EXPERIENCE:

-        Master’s Degree in Business Analytics, Data Analytics or Data Science, with a BA/BS in statistic, economics, or equivalent;

-        3+ years of work experience in Python or R, able to query data using SQL, has experience working with cloud-based computing platforms and big data tools;

-        4+ years of experience in data science, advanced data manipulation, machine learning,  statistical analysis, data visualization and communication projects using cloud applications;

-        2+ years of experience with agile concepts, implementing analytical or data science solution;

-        Working level in Spanish and English.

SKILLS:

-        Strong quantitative analytical skills; with statistical analysis competence in techniques such as correlation, regression, KPI metric development, segmentation modeling, and algorithm design and implementation;

-        Strong understanding of AWS concepts and AWS cloud solutions experience is a must;

-        Profound knowledge in various scripting languages (Python, R, and others), system & AWS cloud infrastructure administration, and mass system deployments;

-        Experience in a cross-functional team facing role or working within a team at an enterprise to optimize AWS cloud spending;

-        Self-motivated, team player, able to take initiatives and act independently in a fast-paced environment.
