COUNCIL ON INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONL EXCHANGE (CIEE)
CIEE is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization, CIEE is the world leader in international education and exchange. For 70 years CIEE has helped thousands of people gain the knowledge and skills necessary to live and work in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world by offering the most comprehensive, relevant, and valuable exchange programs available. Serving over 300 U.S. College and University consortium members, CIEE operates sixty study centers in over forty countries that support study abroad programs for over 6,000 students annually. In addition, as the largest sponsor for U.S. Department of State J-1 Visa programs, CIEE helps nearly 25,000 international students participate in U.S. based exchange programs annually. CIEE programs and services span study abroad, teach abroad, international faculty development seminars, and inbound exchange study, work, and internship programs for today’s high school and university students, professionals, and educators.

Summary of Role
The Academic Coordinator oversees, in collaboration with and supervision by the Center Director, the coordination, quality, and planning of all courses and educational programming year-round for the CIEE Center in Valparaiso. More generally, it is the job of the Academic Coordinator to provide intellectual leadership and to ensure a rigorous, engaging and supportive learning environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Recruitment, evaluation, hiring, training, and management of instructors
• Developing and managing close partnerships with local universities
• Curriculum development, including management of syllabi creation
• Assurance of highest academic standards, in compliance with academic policies with Academic Affairs department
• Scheduling of all the Center courses, and oversight of co-curricular activities
• Academic and Programmatic Oversight of all Center programs, including Study, FAC, and others
• Program development and management including new and existing academic tracks; short-term programs; faculty and custom-led programs and other programs as needed
• Management of student course evaluation process
• Academic advising of incoming and current students
• Advises on IT (Canvas, other) needs and manages Canvas as the platform to communicate with students
• Development of Study Tours and activities in conjunction with Student Life Staff
• Participate in on-site orientation and cultural activities with students
• Administrative tasks related with student registrations (enrolment and course enrolment)
Qualifications:
• Teaching – Minimum five years teaching in a university environment with a student-focused approach. Demonstrated teaching experience to U.S. college students. A research track record would be an advantage
• Experience - knowledge of the US academic system and of the study abroad sector
• Organization—Ability to reconcile statistics and handle multiple ongoing tasks and prioritize within a complex administrative environment
• Communication —Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English, and enthusiasm about working with and giving time as motivator and educator to our students
• Communication with faculty – be able to lead the faculty and gain their respect and confidence, experience and soundness of judgement to provide effective communication with adjunct faculty, some of them senior scholars of standing
• Flexibility— Must be flexible and be able to respond quickly to changing circumstances. Must have a high tolerance for ambiguity. Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings, as required
• Efficiency and sensitivity to deadlines—ability to complete detail-oriented tasks on time without sacrificing accuracy or quality
• Language—Fluency in English and Spanish
• Technology—strong computer skills and the ability to learn new programs quickly (Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, learning management systems, student registration systems, etc.)
